SEO ROI Calculator

Estimate SEO return from cost, organic visits, conversion rate, and conversion value.

SEO ROI = (Organic value - SEO cost) / SEO cost × 100%

What this calculator does

Estimate the return on a defined period of SEO spending from attributed organic visits, conversion rate, and contribution value per conversion.

Scope, period, and currency

This page runs a local formula from user-entered values. The country/currency selector changes money symbols and formatting only: it does not perform live or historical FX conversion or automatically change contract, tax, accounting, or regulatory rules. Convert all amounts into one currency first and keep periods and metric definitions consistent.

Formula variables

C
All-in SEO cost for the same reporting period.
V
Attributed organic visits for that period.
r
Conversion rate as a decimal.
m
Contribution value or gross profit per conversion, not automatically gross sales.

Formula and worked example

Formula: Organic value = V × r × m; SEO ROI = (Organic value − C) ÷ C × 100%.

Recalculation: $8,500 cost; 72,000 visits; 1.8% conversion; $22 contribution value. Conversions = 1,296; organic value = $28,512; net value = $20,012; ROI = 235.44%.

Model assumptions

  • Every input covers the same attribution and reporting window.
  • Conversion value uses a consistent profit or contribution basis.
  • The model does not forecast ranking, traffic, or delayed conversions.

Reading the result and model boundary

  • A positive result means attributed value exceeds entered cost, not that SEO caused every conversion.
  • Compare conservative, base, and optimistic values using one attribution model.

This is a period ROI model, not an incrementality study or traffic forecast.

How to use it

  1. Choose one reporting period and attribution model.
  2. Enter all labor, content, engineering, tooling, and agency costs.
  3. Use attributed visits and contribution value from reconciled analytics and finance data.
  4. Recalculate after refunds and delayed conversions are known.

Common incorrect uses

  • Using Search Console clicks as if they were Analytics sessions without reconciliation.
  • Entering revenue instead of contribution value while calling the result profit ROI.
  • Mixing quarterly cost with monthly traffic or conversion data.

Suggested verification workflow

  1. Reconcile cost and attribution data.
  2. Calculate a base case.
  3. Stress-test conversion value and attribution assumptions.

FAQ

Should value per conversion be revenue or profit?

Use contribution value or gross profit when you want a profit-based ROI; label a revenue-based result clearly.

Are Search Console clicks the same as visits?

No. Search Console reports search-result clicks, while analytics products measure site activity under different rules.

Does the currency selector convert exchange rates?

No. It changes display formatting only; enter all money in one currency.

Method and review boundary

Results are calculated locally in the browser from the formula shown on this page. The tool does not retrieve live rates, quotes, approvals, or billing data. Last reviewed: July 24, 2026.

Use the result for first-pass estimates, scenario comparison, and question preparation; it is not financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice.
