Official standards and scope
ECMA-376 defines Office Open XML workbooks, the bundled read-excel-file project's documentation describes XLSX row extraction, and GFM defines pipe tables. This page accepts .xlsx files only, uses the first worksheet returned by the parser, treats its first row as the Markdown header, collapses whitespace, and escapes pipe characters. It exports parsed cell values, not workbook presentation: other sheets, styles, merged-cell semantics, formula definitions, comments, and drawing objects are not represented, and the result is not checked by a Markdown renderer.

FAQ
Does it preserve formulas?
The converter exports displayed cell values, not workbook formulas.
Is Excel to Markdown free to use?
Yes. You can use it directly in the browser without creating an account.
Does Excel to Markdown support batch processing?
Text tools usually process one pasted input at a time, so split large jobs into smaller inputs.

Excel to Markdown runs in your browser, so your input or files are not uploaded to DataHub servers.
Can I use Excel to Markdown on mobile?
Yes, but desktop browsers are better for large files, batch conversion, or long text input.
Why can conversion or validation fail?
Common causes include invalid syntax, missing required fields, or invisible characters copied with the input.
Can I use the result commercially?
The tool only processes your own input. Commercial use depends on the rights of the original file or data.
